America’s Essential Hospitals held our annual Medicaid Summit on September 20 – 21.

The Biden administration has signaled an interest in taking the Medicaid program in new directions. Access and equity are two key drivers of the new administration’s approach to the program. These and other pressing Medicaid issues were be examined during our virtual Medicaid Summit.

Fellow essential hospital leaders connected at this two-day virtual summit through Medicaid public policy and finance sessions — a balance between the political and operational aspects of Medicaid in 2021.

The summit also featured general sessions on timely developments in public policy and hospital finance. Keynote speaker and national Medicaid expert Barbara Eyman, JD, started the summit with an overview of national and state-specific trends in Medicaid payment innovation and the implications for essential hospitals.

The summit featured two keynote sessions on timely developments in both public policy and hospital finance.

Daniel Tsai, recently appointed as deputy administrator and director of the Center for Medicaid and CHIP Services, shared his thoughts on the Biden administration’s Medicaid policy priorities and the center’s work to address disparities in health equity and the needs of the program’s nearly 75 million beneficiaries.

National expert Barbara Eyman, JD, provided an overview of national and state-specific trends in Medicaid payment innovation and the implications for essential hospitals.
